ERA-NETs foster collaborative working among national or regional agencies and research programmes. They are established in particular research areas and issue joint multinational calls in that area. The EC provides funds to support the administration of an ERA-NET while the funding for successful research projects is provided by the agencies participating in the ERA-NET. In the UK these agencies are usually Research Councils.
Researchers can take part in applications to calls for proposals once the particular ERA-NET has been established.
Each ERA-NET has a different set of national members and the University of Oxford can participate only in calls issued by ERA-NETs that have UK membership.
Applications are made to the relevant Research Council or Research funder using standard national rules rather than directly to the European Commission.
Funding opportunities open to UK participants are published on Research Council websites.
